Scuola Provinciale Cani da ricerca e catastrofe Onlus Trento exam

The 25th and 26th of June, two intensive days to meet and get in the game, two days of exams to become operational and maintain the operational status of the Canine Rescue Unit, On the first day we were confronted with initially a hot and muggy day and the second started with rain and wind, which did not phase the work of the handlers and technicians, who were prepared to face any weather problems.

The Dalvit instructors, Castaman Martinelli and the Provincial School search and catastrophe dog Onlus Trento (www.canidaricerca.it) were committed to follow and see crowned the trainees through the long process of forming the Dog Units.

Together with the evaluation experts, the instructors and handlers have performed in the verification tests with the GAUCS method, at the end of each search we compared through various discussions about:

  • effective approach to the search area with respect to the declared departing strategy;
  • the choice of the strategy, based on the initial interview;
  • the effectiveness of the interview made before departure;
  • the zone coverage by the handler;
  • the zone coverage by the dog, with the subsequent verification of the dog's management with the same part of the handler;

With a spirit of positive dialogue, to get involved and to bechallenged to grow has been the basis of all the work with synergy and professionalism: the handlers, enthusiastic and curious, came to see and understand the work, how they had implemented what had been said, curious to know how it had worked, they and their dogs, knowing how to willingly accept all directions and the tips given by the evaluation expert finite research.

Our job, as before on the sidelines of the test, as they passed the time, it is integrated into a objective assessment of the work done by the handlers, in support of and in addition to the evaluation expert himself.

In the attached pictures you can not only enjoy a few pieces of the work, but also see some intervention strategies. In order to appreciate and understand the strategy implemented one should learn about the scenario of intervention, the Canine Unit working method, etc ...,

This moment of confrontation highlights the preparation of the tested UC.

The ability of a handler is always expanding by embracing various prerogatives, from reading and map orienteering to know where you are and how you can interpret it to better address the lay of the land, the use of satellite technology with portable GPS being able to verify at any time the work, to know how to interface with the public officials who are managing the operation and maneuvers for first aid and resuscitation BLS.

With the analysis of the data from the individual handlers and then in debriefing with the instructors, Handlers can see where to improve and where to work on to bring the Canine Unit to grow continually improve.

No longer call them just Dog Units, but Technical Rescue Kennelclubs.
